Buyer Request

Designing and printing a simple soap holder that will be used to make a mold for casted parts.

Must feature an inner slot as well as a slight taper towards the center to allow for drainage. Additionally, the buyer’s logo must be embossed on the front.

Design & Print

The buyer’s only additional request was to make the part “more square”.

Given that the soap dish is already a simple rectangle, the only avenue to accomplish a “more square” design is to design the taper to be less of a fillet and more of a draft.

In order to have the slope come out smoother and more uniform, the part was printed on it’s side allowing for the print lines to better conform to the shape. This also meant printing with supports and some post-processing.

Working on this project helped highlight the importance of picking print orientation in order to allow for the printer to build in a direction that best utilizes the layer height to print a gradual slope. Additionally, it was important to focus on ensuring that the embossed logo had enough clearance to allow for legibility and clarity which gave better insight into the process of adding branding to products.
