Accessory Display Stand
Accessory Display Stand
Combining Form and Function
A minimalist 3D printed stand designed to hold multiple rings and allow for necklaces to hang freely without getting tangled.
Knots and Piles
Having a variety of choice when it comes to accessories is great until it all goes inside a box.
Rings get scattered, chains get tangled and in the end you have no way of visually gauging size without pulling out each one.
Design Considerations
The most common solution for storing rings and chains are boxes with individualized crevices for each item. The biggest disadvantage of this however, is that, without comparing pieces, it is relatively difficult to sort rings by finger and chains by length.
I eventually realized that the easiest solution is one that we already use. Hands.
Each finger can hold the ring of the appropriate size for that finger. Additionally, the “wrist” can act as a sort of neck and shoulders to hold chains or necklaces.

Final Design Takeaways
The final design for the hand inspired accessory display stand features a wide “palm” and an outer wall that curves inwards to guide the necklaces towards the center.
Providing myself with the constraint of designing a hand proved to be an interesting challenge. I found there was a fine line between a decorative piece and a creepy hand in the corner of the room. I believe I was able to achieve an acceptable middle ground and am happy with the results.
In the future I’ll look to improve the following:
Devise a way for the chains to be separated more easily without constraining to having a finite number of them.
Re-design the base such that chains can easily be stored when not hanging.
